Meter

Meter is the pattern of strong and weak beats that gives music its rhythmic feel — it's defined by the time signature. In 4/4 meter, beat one is strongest; in 3/4 (waltz time), beat one is strong and beats two and three are lighter. Feeling the meter naturally will make your playing sound musical rather than mechanical.
