Ornament

An ornament is any decorative note or group of notes that embellishes the melody — trills, turns, mordents, and grace notes are all ornaments. They add sparkle and personality to the music, but they should always serve the melody, never overwhelm it. Learn each type of ornament individually, then practise fitting them smoothly into the rhythmic flow.
