Staff

The staff (or stave) is the set of five horizontal lines and four spaces where musical notes are written. Piano music uses two staves joined together — treble clef on top for the right hand and bass clef below for the left. Learning to read both staves simultaneously is the core skill of piano reading, and it comes with regular practice.
