Tenuto

Tenuto (marked with a short horizontal line above or below a note) means 'held' — give the note its absolute full value, perhaps even leaning into it slightly. It's the opposite of staccato; where staccato shortens, tenuto sustains. When you see tenuto markings, think of each note as important and worth savouring.
