Dotted Note

A dot after a note adds half of its original value — so a dotted minim lasts for three beats instead of two. Dotted rhythms create a bouncy, lilting feel and are everywhere in piano music. The key is to hold the dotted note for its full length; count carefully and don't rush the shorter note that usually follows.
