Sharp

A sharp (♯) raises a note by one semitone — on the piano, that usually means playing the black key immediately to the right of the natural note. Like flats, sharps in the key signature apply throughout the piece unless cancelled by a natural sign. Check your key signature carefully before you start and let those sharps become automatic.
